Brennivín (37,5%) is a clear unsweetened Icelandic schnapps, considered the country's signature distilled beverage. The literal English translation is 'burning wine'.

The drink is made from fermented potatoes and is flavored with caraway seeds. The drink has a strong taste and high alcohol content (37.5% ABV). Brennivín is similar to to Scandinavian Akvavit, especially the Danish variety, called brændevin.
